Description: Created by a Harvard lawyer CPA investor, Speculator is a uniquely sophisticated and realistic trading simulation game that lets you have fun trading stocks and bonds (including convertible bonds), put and call options, and commodity futures. (Caution: Highly addictive. You may also grow rather nervous as you await your main stock s next quarterly earnings report!)Learn by doing, in this simulation of the world economy and Wall Street, in which 2 to 10 players (human and computer) compete, trying to grow their $100,000 inheritances into an ample retirement fund by game s end. Days and months pass by as a live simulated stock ticker and a news headline ticker run constantly. Time stops when you halt the tickers or when important news announcements break in.Everything happens in simulated financial markets and a world economy, all constantly changing. You can choose to trade any of 1000+ stocks and 15 funds (ETF s), and can invest in government bonds, or in corporate bonds issued by some companies.Once your net worth grows to $200,000, your broker will let you have a margin account. At $ 0,000, you re allowed to dabble in risky short selling of stocks; at $400,000, you will qualify to buy or sell options on any of the stocks in the simulation; at $500,000, you are considered to be sophisticated enough to speculate on highly leveraged (20-to-1) commodity futures on crude oil, gold, silver, wheat or corn, or Stock Index futures. You can play at Level 1, where no taxes apply to your investment income or capital gains, or at higher levels in which you pay taxes. You can configure each game to play in U.S. dollars or one of 18 other currencies (Euro, Pound, etc.).Many research tools are provided to help you analyze companies and the 70 industry groups in the simulation and learn how the economy and other factors such as commodity prices, tax rates and interest rates affect different industries (and the companies in them) and your investments.

Press release from the publisher:Ronin Software is pleased to announce the release of Speculator: The Stock Trading Simulation for Windows. ($19.95)
Speculator is a highly realistic simulation of the financial markets and global economy, in which players begin with a modest inheritance of $100,000 and compete against up to nine other human or computer players in buying, selling, and shorting stocks, and trading government bonds, corporate bonds (including convertible bonds), put and call options and commodity and stock index futures, attempting to build a large retirement fund in game years.
The ample help files encourage experimentation with complex options and convertible bond trading strategies, ranging from simple ones like hedging convertible bond investments with short sales of the underlying stock and simple options strategies like selling covered calls, to exotic and sophisticated options strategies used by hedge funds, such as the Iron Butterfly and Condor combinations of puts and calls.
The simulation consists of over 1000 companies in 70 industries, each growing (or shrinking in hard times) and competing intelligently in its industry and within the simulation s economic model. Each company borrows from one of 50 or more banks, or issues stock or bonds to raise capital for expansion, when needed. Days and months pass quickly as the live stock and news tickers run, with all companies reporting earnings each quarter, as stock prices react to a wide array of factors, as in the real world.
The small, deceptively simple-looking main screen of Speculator is like a compact black box that masks a vastly intricate interior, which creates a complete and highly realistic trading experience in great detail, with nothing omitted but the phone calls from your broker with his or her latest hot stock tip. Players quickly find that Speculator compares to other trading simulators like chess does to checkers.
Developed by author Michael D. Jenkins, a Harvard-trained lawyer, CPA, and lifelong investor in stocks, bonds and options, Speculator is a highly addictive, realistic stock market game that is designed to teach players about investing as well as to entertain.
Experienced investors will note that the software s sophisticated proprietary algorithms consistently generate remarkably realistic prices for the stocks, straight bonds,
convertible bonds and options in the simulation, as well as realistic contango or backwardation in commodity futures pricing. It feels like the real thing.
In each game, players can initially only invest their $100,000 inheritance in stocks and bonds, in a cash account. As they grow their account to various levels, their trading status is elevated to allow them to do margin trading, short selling, options trading, and eventually to speculate in risky commodity and Stock Index futures contracts.
